Magnetic Field Compensation System MR-3

Have you ever operated a high resolution electron microscope near an elevator or in the vicinity of cables carrying high AC currents? Then you probably know what magnetic noise is! The magnetic field compensation system MR-3 is a proven solution of problems related with magnetic field noise in the frequency range from DC to ~1000 Hz. Typical applications are noise reduction in electron microscopy, electron and ion beam experiments, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), biomagnetic investigations, SQUID operation, and paleomagnetic research.

The magnetic field is measured with a low noise triaxial fluxgate magnetometer. Three power amplifiers are built in for direct connection of compensation coils. Typically, such coils consist of a set of cable rings installed in the edges of the laboratory. For example, pairs of 5-wire 2.5 mm² cable rings connected in series can be used to compensate for magnetic field noise up to 5 µT (peak to peak) in a laboratory of 6 x 6 m² base dimensions. Custom modifications, compensation coils, and installation service are available on request.
